Unification of Industry Leaders

In May of 2006, Konecranes, Inc. acquired MMH Holdings, Inc., the owner of Morris Material Handling, Inc., its affiliates and subsidiaries–after three decades of operating independently and competing directly in several market segments.

Konecranes’ intention has been to take the development of these two leading organizations to the next level by fully unifying operations under the Konecranes name, enabling access to the broadest range of products and services and the most experienced service technicians and engineers in the industry, all from a single supplier.

Traditional P&H® branded products continue to be offered, supported and serviced through Morris Material Handling, with OEM (original equipment manufacturer) parts, training and know-how. In the U.S., parts for P&H branded products as well as many other brands including but not limited to CMS™, Shepard Niles® and Kranco™, can be purchased through Konecranes’ parts organization, Crane Pro Parts™.


The Story of the P&H® Brand

With the 2006 acquisition of Morris Material Handling, Konecranes became the rightful owner of the engineering drawings, manufacturing machines and general know-how that built the P&H brand of overhead crane dating back to 1884.

One small but significant asset could not and did not come along with the purchase – the black and yellow, boldly rectangular logo that is the P&H trademark. The P&H logo was never owned by Morris Material Handling. Instead, it was and continues to be used by Morris Material Handling under a license agreement. Today, Konecranes can provide a genuine and original P&H crane, hoist and replacement part, because we own everything that makes up the crane. However, Konecranes can’t apply a P&H logo to a crane, because Konecranes does not own or license use of the logo. Ownership of the P&H logo is in the hands of Harnischfeger Technologies Inc., to whom the P&H trademark is registered.

Meanwhile, Morris Material Handling is able to continue using the P&H trademark, because its license agreement with Harnischfeger Technologies remains in effect. Unfortunately, the license agreement does not extend up the organization chart to the parent company, Konecranes.
