Overhead Crane Manufacturers: How Konecranes Compares to the Rest

Overhead Crane Manufacturers: How Konecranes Compares to the Rest

Joe Otten
Director, Konecranes Sales and Service Academy

Seven ways that Konecranes rises above other overhead crane manufacturers and overhead crane service providers

How does Konecranes compare to other overhead crane manufacturers and overhead crane service providers? The differences far outnumber the similarities, so I’ll briefly summarize seven key ways that Konecranes stands apart from the others:

AC vs. DC Overhead Crane Controls

Scott McCauley
Product Support Engineer

For facilities seeking ways to reduce power consumption and long-term operating costs, a potential source of savings can be found by upgrading crane controls. With a crane modernization that converts overhead crane controls to AC power from DC power, facilities will experience a significant reduction in power consumption and operating costs.

Important considerations to make when choosing a wire rope hoist

Wire rope hoists cover the bulk of industrial lifting needs, from 1-ton capacity on up to 80 tons—and beyond.

Choosing the right wire rope hoist for your application requires a few important considerations:

New smart crane technology elevates safety and productivity

Smart crane technology is evolving into even more sophisticated capabilities. Sway Control technology, for instance, can now compensate for conditions independent of the normal physics of crane operation, such as wind.

And smart crane technology puts more real-time monitoring and control in the operator’s hands through smart tablets. They’re especially valuable tools for crane operators working in any application—semi-automatic or fully automatic—where you need to know where the crane is, at all times.

The Konecranes Approach to Crane Maintenance

Jim Skowron
Regional Vice President of Sales, Region Americas Service

Skimping on the maintenance of vital equipment that lifts thousands of tons isn’t just asking for trouble, it’s asking for negative consequences to an operation’s bottom line.

At Konecranes, we take an approach to crane maintenance that focuses attention on the entire lifecycle of a crane. In turn, this approach not only improves the safety and productivity of our customers’ operations, it also lowers their lifetime cost of crane ownership.

Aaron Boutwell
District Key Accounts Manager

Technology advancements combined with safety and operational improvements are changing the way both new and retrofitted cranes are now operated. How? Radio control.

A growing number of new overhead cranes now include radio crane controls as a standard feature. At the same time, owners of older cranes commonly request that radio, or remote, controls be included in their crane upgrades.

The advantages of radio crane controls are many. The most significant benefit is improved safety.

Going Above and Beyond: How Inverters Are Improving Crane Safety & Performance

Going Above and Beyond: How Inverters Are Improving Crane Safety & Performance

Chris Williams
Technical Support Engineer

Over the past 25 years, the popularity of inverters has continually increased along with their ability to improve crane safety, performance, and service life. In fact, they have become so prevalent in recent years that I’ve noticed a significant drop in the use of contactors, which, as many of you may know, used to be the industry standard for controlling crane movements. Anymore, I only see contactors used instead of variable-frequency drives (inverters) for very specific applications. They are an endangered species that is becoming rarer and rarer every day.
